See how North Alabama markets stack up in October home sales

Markets: Athens (Limestone County), Cullman County, Gadsden, Huntsville-Madison County, Marshall County, Morgan County (Decatur)
Only one market in North Alabama saw a year-over-year decrease in home sales during the month of October.
Six out of the seven market areas reported either zero change or positive change in home sales during the month.
The highest increase was in Athens/Limestone County, which saw a 24.7 percent increase in home sales from last year.
Gadsden was the only area that suffered a loss, a 2.9 percent drop from a year ago.
Huntsville
The Huntsville market is the largest among the North Alabama areas that reports data to the Alabama Center for Real Estate.
There were 458 homes sold during October, compared to 434 a year ago. Year-to-date home sales stood at 5,283, a 9.5 percent positive change from the same period during 2015.
The five-year average (2011-15) was 407 for the month of October.

Athens/Limestone County
There were 111 homes sold in Athens/Limestone County during October. This was 24.7 percent higher than last October's total of 89 homes.
Yeear-to-date, there have been 1,158 homes in the market area, 17.7 percent higher than the same period last year.
The five-year average for homes sold during October in this market was 79.

Marshall County
Marshall County recorded 75 homes sold for the month of October.
This was a 10.3 percent rise from last October's 68 homes sold.
Year-to-date, Marshall County's home sales through October rose 6.6 percent over last year. The five-year average for homes sold during October was 61.

Shoals
The Shoals area saw a small rise in home sales during October, with 124 sold during the month, compared to 123 sold during October 2015, a 0.8 percent uptick.
Year-to-date, home sales have risen 0.7 percent to 1,386 units over the same period last year.
The five-year average for homes sold during October in the Shoals area was 115.

Morgan County
Morgan County had 113 homes sold during October, the exact amount sold the previous year.
Home sales were down 24.7 percent from the prior month's total (150).
Year-to-date sales, however, rose 14.2 percent to 1,267 units, compared to the same period last year.

Cullman
Cullman also saw no increase or decrease in home sales during October, with 57 units sold during the month.
There were 80 units sold during September in Cullman, a 28.8 percent difference.
Year-to-date, home sales in Cullman have risen 1.8 percent to 625 units, compared to the same period last year.
The five-year average for homes sold in Cullman during October was 53.

Gadsden
The Gadsden market saw a 2.9 percent decrease in year-over-year home sales during October, with 68 units sold, compared to 70 last year.
Year-to-date home sales in Gadsden have risen 15.3 percent to 815 units, compared to the same period last year.
The five-year average for homes sold in Gadsden during October was 56.
